My HypnoBirth – Trish Cumming

As a practicing Doula and HypnoBirthing coach, I have witnessed (or heard about) the good, the bad and the ugly of birth experiences. And while its true that your birth experience will be unique to you and your child, there are things you can do to ensure its a positive experience (regardless of what Mother Nature intends to throw your way).

I have been blessed with 3 beautiful children, and each birth has been dramatically different. It was when preparing for the birth of my third child that I discovered HypnoBirthing, and this is my story…

My HypnoBirthing® Experience by Trish Cumming

The picture to the right shows me and my husband an hour or so before our son William was born at Soonchunhyung Hospital, Seoul, South Korea in May 2006.

In contrast to my previous births, the birth of our third child was incredibly rewarding.  Through the use of HypnoBirthing, my belief in a women’s body’s innate ability to birth was restored.

You see, I have long held the belief that birth should be a celebration and that my body was not only fully capable of but designed to, naturally give birth to my children. Unfortunately with my first two children, this belief had been shattered thanks to archaic birthing rituals and unnecessary intervention and inflexible hospital procedures and rules. But don’t get me started on that here 🙂

Thankfully though, in what would be my final pregnancy, I was lucky enough to discover HypnoBirthing, and through its simple self-hypnosis, I was able to banish my fears, prepare my body and condition my mind to create the positive birth that I wanted (and deserved).  William’s birth was empowering and transformational.

But when talking with my friends and family I discovered that HypnoBirthing wasn’t well known. This process, which I believe revolutionised my birth experience – was thought of as alternate, and that was IF they’d even heard of it at all.

So armed with my passion and desire to help others, I became fully qualified HypnoBirthing Practitioner in December 2007.

I have been teaching HypnoBirthing® since December 2007. Since then, I have had the honour of being involved in the lives of some very amazing women, their partners and children.  Some women were first time Mums, others were 2nd or 3rd time Mums, some had hospital births, some had home births and some were VBAC’s (vagainal birth after cesarean).

You see, it doesn’t matter who you are, or what your birth plan is. HypnoBirthing will help your mind and body prepare for the process of giving birth.

Following my husband’s work, I have gone international, teaching HypnoBirthing in Seoul, South Korea;  Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Australia.

But now, our feet are firmly settled in The Gap, Brisbane, and I run HypnoBirthing classes in various locations servicing The Gap, Ashgrove, Bardon, Samford, Mt Nebo, Keperra, Toowong and the North Western Suburbs of Brisbane.
